Very early city map in bird’s eye view of Brouwershaven from the City Book of Braun and Hogenberg, the “Civitates orbis terrarum”.

This largest city book ever published, consisting of 6 volumes, the first of which appeared in Cologne in 1572, contains a total of 546 floor plans and profile views of the most important cities in the world at that time. More than a hundred cartographers and artists have contributed to the creation. Most engravings were made by Frans Hogenberg, Joris Hoefnagel and his son Jacob. Many engravings are based on woodcuts by Münster, Deventer, Stumpf and Rantzau.
