Johann Elias Ridinger (February 15, 1698 in Ulm – April 10, 1767 in Augsburg) was a German animal painter, engraver, eraser and publisher.

Ridinger was the son of a father of Christoph Rasch (also Resch) in Ulm and Johann Falch (also Falk) in Augsburg and then continued his education in Regensburg, where his fondness for hunting at the court of Count Metternich led. After 1717 he undertook further studies in the Imperial Academy of Georg Philipp Rugendas. He later founded his own art publishing house in Augsburg, where most of his works were published. In 1759 he became director of the Academy of Fine Arts. Ridinger died on 10 April 1767 in Augsburg. His work was continued by his sons Martin Elias (1730-1780) and Johann Jakob (1735-1784). The publishing house was later taken over by the Martin Engelbrechtsche Kunsthandlung and in 1827 by Johann Alois Schlosser.

Its erased leaves, which amount to about 1600 pieces, represent the animals in characteristic moments of life and landscape environments. Old prints of the leaves are rare. An edition as “Galerie Ridinger’s Animal and Hunting Pieces” was started in Augsburg in 1817. His drawings, executed with precision and taste, are very numerous.
